PEI具有很强的高温稳定性，即使是非增强型的PEI，仍具有很好的韧性和强度。因此利用PEI优越的热稳定性可用来制作高温耐热器件。具有优良的机械性能、电绝缘性能、耐辐照性能、耐高低温及耐磨性能，并可透过微波。PEI还有良好的阻燃性、抗化学反应以及电绝缘特性。玻璃化转化温度很高，达215℃。PEI还具有很低的收缩率及良好的等方向机械特性。加入玻璃纤维、碳纤维或其他填料可达到增强改性的目的；也可和其它工程塑料组成耐热高分子合金，可在-160～180℃的工作温度下长期使用。
PEI的注塑模工艺条件：
熔化温度：普通类型材料为340～400℃；增强类型材料为340～415℃。
模具温度：107～175℃，建议模具温度为140℃。压力：700～1500bar。
速度：使用尽可能高的速度。
干燥处理：PEI具有吸湿特性并可导致材料降解。要求湿度值应小于0.02%。建议干燥条件为150℃、4小时的干燥处理。
美国保险商实验室规定聚醚树脂的长期使用温度是338T和356T（根据等级），燃烧等级达到UL94V—0（10密耳厚度。）氧指数达47，聚醚酰符合飞机内件要求的FAA阻燃性和热稀放性的材料标准。它的玻璃化转变温度为419F，并允许在392F下间断使用，在更高温度下，产生短期偏移。在356T下，拉伸温度和挠曲模量分别在41和2068MPa以上。用玻纤、碳纤维增强的材料在接近玻璃态转变温度下，具有更高的强度和刚度。
