划分为SPs的，必须经由经济产业省授权的第三方认证机构依据《电安法》对产品进行检测认证，并需要进行工厂检查，合格后方可加贴菱形PSE标志（如图1 所示），如电线电缆、熔断器、配线装置、单相小功率变压器、加热器具等。划分为NSPs的，不需要第三方认证机构，仅由制造商进行合格声明并加贴圆形 PSE标志（如图2所示）就可进入日本市场，如信息技术类产品、电子娱乐和家用电器类产品（洗衣机、电冰箱等）。简而言之，划分为SPs的产品为强制认证 产品，而NSPs为自愿认证产品。
自2008年11月20日起，锂离子蓄电池列入NSPs的管控范围。即能量密度超过400Wh/L的二次锂离子蓄电池（用于移动设备、桌上笔记本等）。下列锂离子电池除外：用于医疗设备、工业设备和汽车类的锂离子电池；
锂电池PSE认证测试标准：
JISC8712用于便携设备的密封二次电芯或电池-安全要求；
JISC8714用于便携式设备的小型锂离子蓄电池和蓄电池组的安全测试
