Drennan is one of those companies that started with a childhood dream and, like many dreams, came about through determination and good fortune. Roger Owens\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' dream was simply to have his own business, like his father and grandfather. Unlike them, it was insufficient for the dream business to be based at home in Ireland. So it was, that after a degree in engineering at Cambridge and a stint in the military engineers, Roger began to do business in China. Working for Balama Prima, the leading asphalt plant supplier in China, Roger learnt the ins and outs of China sales from Mr Choi Hung Nang, to whom he will always be indebted. After 6 years at Balama, the dream and determination returned, so Drennan was begun in a one bedroom flat in Hong Kong. The aim was clear - supply top quality components to manufacturers of Chinese construction equipment. Drennan secured distributorships for China from several of the best Italian companies in their field, including Walvoil, Casappa and Italvibras. However, in the 90\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s Chinese construction equipment was very low quality, companies had no cash to invest and importation to China was challenging. It was therefore a demanding first four years, which resulted in the good fortune of Tobias Brown taking an interest in the company in 2002.
